This is the spectacular moment a rare 'Buddha's light' phenomenon was seen on a mountain in China.

A hiker witnessed the mesmerising arch of light illuminating the sky with mists billowing in Wushan, Qingdao, Shandong on June 18.

Footage shows the hues of light spreading across the horizon. A rainbow can also be seen in the distance, making the scenery enchanting.

In the country, the sight is called 'Buddha's light' or 'Buddha's halo' and is often observed on cloud-shrouded high mountains, with records dating back to AD 63.

The bright halo is called a 'glory' - an optical event that occurs when light is deflected while hitting water droplets in mist or clouds.

Glories, when viewed from a high vantage point, are sometimes called 'Brocken spectres' or 'mountain spectres' because of the emergence of the observer's magnified shadow within the concentric circles of rainbows.
