This is the tear-jerking moment a lost dog was reunited with his owner in Thailand.

The brown Thai Ridgeback named Cha Thai reportedly jumped from the back of his owner's white pickup truck while travelling along Phetchabun province last week.

Heartbreaking footage shows Cha Thai standing in the rain, looking left and right at the passing cars on Highway No. 12.

Puttan Onta, a vendor stationed near the highway, said the pooch had been staying in front of her shop for around five days.

She said: 'The dog would stand in the rain, and refuse to follow me to take shelter. He seemed scared and his tail was drooping. I noticed he kept trying to follow after the white cars.'

Passers-by and vendors fed Cha Thai, but he appeared depressed waiting for his owner to return.

Locals in the area claimed to have seen Cha Thai leaping from the back of a white pickup truck belonging to a lottery seller.

Taking pity on the animal, Puttan posted Cha Thai's photo on Facebook to trace the owner.

Not long after the post was published, the dog's owners arrived at the shop to pick him up in a heartwarming reunion that had Puttan and the other vendors in tears.

The dog was seen whimpering in joy as he wagged his tail excitedly and dashed around his relieved owners on June 25.

Puttan said: 'His reaction was how I knew they were the real owners. They told me they were travelling to another province, but when they returned home, Cha Thai was not on the truck.

'They lived around six miles away, but they were able to reunite with their pet thanks to social media.'
