A hapless pet cat was rescued after it fell onto a sharp metal spike.

The collared male tabby had been running around on roofs in the neighbourhood when it slipped and landed on the anti-theft spikes in Chonburi province, Thailand, on June 24.

A resident who heard the feline crying in pain called animal rescuers for help.

Video shows the volunteers gently dislodging the crying cat from the skewer before disinfecting and dressing the wound.

The spike had luckily only pierced the pet's skin and missed its vital organs.

Animal rescuer, Boonlom Montri, 49, said: 'This cat must have an owner since it's wearing a collar. We hope the owner calls us soon because the veterinary fees cost around 4,000 to 5,000 baht (86 to 107 GBP). If anyone also wants to cover the expenses, they are welcome to.'

The cat was temporarily staying at the rescuers' office.
