A striking junior doctor taking part in a rally outside Downing Street in London on Thursday (June 27) has said doctors are leaving the UK "en masse".

Dr Fareed Al Qusous, a second year doctor, explained that doctors are moving overseas to countries such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

He explained that doctors "don't feel valued" and put forward that "full pay restoration" would keep them in the UK and end the industrial action.

The junior doctor also mentioned that "patient safety is of utmost priority", including during the strikes, and that safe staffing levels are maintained.

"We're willing to negotiate with any government that takes doctors' issues seriously", he said. The UK will vote in a general election on July 4 to decide the next government. Polling suggests Labour will achieve a strong majority, ending 14 years of the Conservatives in power.

The junior doctors strike will continue until 7am on July 2.
