USA: China urges Gaza ceasefire, demands accountability for violations against children

Storyline:
A Chinese envoy on Wednesday called for efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and demand accountability for violations against children.
Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, made the appeal at a Security Council's open debate on children and armed conflict held at the UN headquarters in New York.
Fu welcomed the listing of offenders that harm children in the Secretary-General's annual report of the perpetrators of grave violations against children in the Gaza conflict and called it a timely response to international demands.
Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also briefed the Security Council meeting, urging its members to prioritize the welfare of children in issues concerning their victimization.
Ted Chaiban, Deputy Executive Director of United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), also addressed the Security Council, expressing concerns over the impact of the armed conflict on children.
