Iran: Iranians look forward to national development with new president
Tehran, Iran - June 27, 2024
Storyline:
Iranian people are expecting their country to achieve national development in various sectors under the new president to be elected during the 14th presidential election.
Scheduled for Friday, the presidential election now has four candidates who are Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the parliamentary speaker, Saeed Jalili, the former top negotiator for nuclear talks, Mostafa Pourmohammadi, a former interior minister and justice minister, and Masoud Pezeshkian, a former health minister.
Some Iranians said that due to the United States' unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and the reinstatement of sanctions against Iran, the country's economic development has been under pressure. They hope that the new government will introduce more effective policy measures to stimulate economic growth and seek the lifting of U.S. sanctions.
Some Iranians believe that their country should continue to develop the relations with other countries in the region and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with friendly countries, which not only helps resist the interference of Western countries in regional affairs, but also conforms to Iran's national interests.
Iran's 14th presidential election, initially set for 2025, was rescheduled following Raissi's unexpected death last month.
According to Iran's Constitution, if the president dies during service, the first vice president temporarily assumes the role of acting president. The first vice president, the parliament speaker, and the chief justice will form a committee and must arrange a new presidential election within 50 days.
