Kent's Kingsferry Bridge to close to all users for 8 days, UK
Kent's Kingsferry Bridge is to close for 8 days from tonight (June 28) to all users.
The bridge will be closed to commercial shipping, leisure yachts and marine watercraft, road, rail, cyclists and pedestrians for over a week.
The extended closure is to allow Network Rail time to replace the 40 steel ropes used to lift the bridge, which have reached end-of-life and must be urgently replaced.
The bridge which opened in 1960 connects Isle of Sheppey to mainland Kent. Road traffic will be able to use the newer Sheppey Crossing bridge.
The closure is from 10pm on Friday (June 28) until 5am on Sunday (July 7).
Footage shows the bridge and preparations for the closure this afternoon (June 28).
