The Coast Guard rescued four boaters when their vessel capsized during a regatta near Dauphin Island, Alabama.

The team were mobilised when they received a distress signal from a personal locator beacon (PLB) registered to the 31ft catamaran vessel Guacamaya on Friday, June 28.

Watchstanders called the phone number connected with the PLB and received no answer. They then contacted the spouse of the owner of the vessel. She informed them that the vessel was participating in a sailboat regatta from Gulfport, Mississippi to Pensacola, Florida and had four persons aboard.

Officials said they launched a 45ft response boat and a Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew to assist in the rescue.

They found the stranded sailors waiting for help on top of the overturned vessel. All of them were rescued and taken ashore. None were injured.
