STORYLINE:

China's first commercial space launch site, located on the island province of Hainan, is now capable of executing rocket launches, the construction site headquarters said on Sunday.

Construction on the Hainan commercial space launch site began in July 2022.

Currently, it features two completed launch pads, with the second pad capable of accommodating over 10 types of rockets.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): XIANG DALIN, Deputy head of the general technology department of Hainan International Commercial Aerospace Launch Co., Ltd. 
"We welcome commercial rocket companies to provide both domestic and international rocket and satellite launch services. Later, Hainan International Commercial Aerospace Launch Co., Ltd. will also release a universal interface file for the second pad, facilitating the design and operation of commercial rockets."

On Sunday, the facility conducted a simulated rocket launch exercise.

"The main purpose of the exercise is to cultivate organizational coordination among our commanders and ensure the correctness of commands. This helps our personnel immerse themselves early into the atmosphere and roles of launch testing, enabling us to execute our missions effectively during the launch and ultimately ensure success."

The site is scheduled to conduct its first rocket launch in the second half of this year.
