A resident swept by flash floods was rescued in the Philippines.

The unidentified elderly man was walking on the side of the overflowing river when he slipped and was taken along with currents in Davao del Sur province on June 30.

Footage shows the man being carried away by the deluge as his frantic neighbours shout for help.

Rescuers were called to the area and helped search for the local. They saw him clinging to bushes on the side of the river and took him to safety.

Neighbour Jessa Daplin Basa said: ‘He didn't panic, which gives him time to think about what he should do to save himself.'

The pensioner was checked for injuries and then assisted to his home.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season, which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
