Cars swept away as river floods amidst heavy rains in northern India
Heavy rains in northern India's Uttrakhand have caused floods due to which vehicles were floating.
The incident took place in Sukhi river in Haridwar district on June 29.
Visuals showed the disturbing sight of the vehicles being carried away by the flood while the locals remained distressed due to the situation.
According to officials, local authorities have warned against going close to the river due to dangerous conditions. Police personnel reported no loss of lives and advised people to park their vehicles in designated areas rather than the dry riverbed in Kharkhari, as vehicles were swept away by rising water levels following heavy rains in Haridwar.
According to reports, due to its typically dry nature, locals habitually park their cars on the Sukhi riverbed. This river joins the mainstream of the Ganga just a short distance away from the town.
According to officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall and a generally cloudy sky in Haridwar on Sunday and over the next three days. An ‘Orange Alert’ has been declared for June 30 and July 1.
