This is the terrifying moment a huge crocodile went for a walk in front of stunned drivers in India.

The curious predator is believed to have been flushed out of a nearby stream due to heavy rain in Chiplun, Maharashtra, on July 1.

Footage shows the reptile ambling along the busy road during the evening rush hour traffic in front of shocked motorists.

Some had to swerve and manoeuvre their vehicles to avoid hitting the beast.

Nobody was hurt by the croc but residents slammed the local government for failing to control the wild animal.

As the monsoon season arrived in northern India on Sunday, heavy rain caused widespread disruptions in Maharashtra and other regions of the country.

Several locals were killed in rain-related incidents, including lightning strikes and drownings.
