A pet kitten scared by thunder fell through the manhole of a drainage pipe and was rescued.

The three-month-old feline was playing in front of its owner's shop when there was a rumble in the sky in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand, on June 19.

The panicked moggy aimlessly ran around to find cover but slipped down the hole instead.

Footage shows firemen extracting the cat from the bottom of the hole. One of the rescuers rappelled down the drain while a colleague waited above to pull the cat with a stick.

Its owner said: ‘I attempted to rescue my kitten, but we couldn't fully open the concrete cover. So we called for help.'

The kitten was given a bath as it was drenched in dirty sewer water before being returned to its owner unharmed.
