STORYLINE:
Mongolia welcomed the highest number of single-day tourist arrivals ever recorded on Tuesday, announced the country's Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
According to a statement from the ministry, Mongolia received a total of 5,174 foreign tourists on Tuesday. This surpasses the previous record set in mid-July last year, during the peak of tourism season, when 4,485 foreign tourists visited in a single day.
The Asian country has been implementing measures to promote tourism as part of its strategy to diversify the economy, which currently relies heavily on its export-oriented mining sector. The country has designated 2023-2025 as "Years to Visit Mongolia," aiming to attract at least 1 million foreign tourists annually.
Since the beginning of this year, Mongolia has welcomed 314,148 foreign tourists. Last year, the country attracted over 650,000 foreign tourists and generated 1.2 billion U.S. dollars from the tourism sector, marking an all-time high.
