An out-of-control pickup truck demolished plant boxes in front of shops when the driver tried to evade a motorcycle.

CCTV footage shows the vehicle ramming the concrete structures outside the establishment before coming to a halt in front of Istana Cafe in Yala province, Thailand, on June 27.

Smoke came out of the back of the car as the driver and his passenger fled to the street.

According to witnesses, the truck was crossing an intersection when a two-wheeler ran a red light.

The driver was startled and swerved to avoid the motorbike but ran through the sidewalk.

While the driver and his passenger were unhurt, the motorcycle was injured from falling off his bike.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
