116 killed in stampede at Hathras 'satsang'. A grim history of stampedes at religious events in Northern India
At least 116 devotees, mostly women and children, were killed and several others were injured on July 2 , Tuesday in a stampede at the end of a satsang, a religious gathering led by Narayan Sakaar Vishwa Hari, also known as 'Bhole Baba', in Sikandra Rao town of Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.
116 people died, an FIR is being filed in the Hathras Stampede tragedy"UttarPradesh DGP Prashant Kumar.
In the first information given by SSP Etah Rajesh Kumar Singh, it was told that people have died in the stampede. 27 dead bodies have come for postmortem, of which 23 are women, 3 are children and one is a man. A committee has been formed to investigate the Hathras accident. The committee will investigate this major accident under the leadership of ADG Agra Zone. Aligarh Commissioner will also investigate it.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the accident in Hathras. The CM has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. The CM has instructed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work and also given instructions for proper treatment of the injured.
