The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Police, averted a major tragedy in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir when a langar vehicle traveling from Amarnath to Hoshiarpur, Punjab, lost control due to brake failure.

The incident took place at Nachalana on NH-44 in Ramban district on July 2.

Visuals showed a bus traveling on NH-44 lost control, sending the passengers into a panic. In a desperate attempt to save their lives, people started jumping out of the moving vehicle. The chaotic scene unfolded as the bus careened dangerously close to the edge of a nalah. Passengers, including men, women, and even a child, leaped from the bus, sustaining injuries in the process. The fear and urgency were palpable as each person tried to escape the impending disaster, highlighting the sheer terror of the situation.

The quick-thinking army jawans and police officers acted swiftly to slow down and eventually stop the bus, which was on the verge of plunging into a nalah. They placed stones beneath the vehicle's tires to prevent it from rolling further.

Amid the commotion, the 40 passengers on board panicked, leading to several of them jumping out of the moving bus, resulting in injuries. Among the injured were six men, three women, and one child.

Army Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and ambulances responded immediately, providing medical assistance and first aid to the injured at a local medical facility in Nachalana. The prompt and brave actions of the Indian Army and JK Police prevented a potential disaster, ensuring the safety of the passengers during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.
