STORYLINE:

Ismail Daurov is a doctor at the China-Kazakhstan Center for Traditional Medicine in Astana.

The Kazakh man had spent nine years studying in China's Xi'an. 

Calling Shaanxi his second hometown, Daurov volunteered to help with local COVID-19 response in Xi'an during the epidemic. 

His words -- "I am a foreigner, but I am not an outsider" -- touched many people in China.

Now he wants to bring health benefits to more Kazakh people through TCM therapies.

"During the nine years living in Shaanxi, there had been many unforgettable and wonderful moments, including visiting the local historical sites and experiencing the friendliness of Chinese friends. In China, people often come into contact with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture in their daily lives, which leads to a better understanding and greater trust in TCM. However, in Kazakhstan, people's understanding of TCM is still relatively limited. Therefore, from the beginning, I would explain the nature of diseases, their treatment methods, and its importance from the perspective of TCM. I am pleased to bring the TCM diagnosis and treatment experience I gained in China to Kazakhstan, contributing to the health of people across nationalities. In the future, I want to continue improving my skills and knowledge in the field of TCM. Here, I work with very experienced doctors from China. I see that even though they have more than 20 years of medical experience, they still learn new knowledge every day and dedicate their lives to healing the sick and saving lives. The word "doctor" has always been closely associated with kindness and health, and I hope to set an example for my children. It is well known that there are differences between Kazakhstan and China in medical and cultural traditions. However, overall, as neighboring countries, Kazakhstan and China are engaged in friendly dialogue to achieve universal prosperity and the well-being of their people."
