An oil spill off the coast of Singapore turned the country's beaches black, threatening wildlife.

A boat from the Netherlands crashed into a fuel ship on June 28, causing a massive oil leak.

Footage shows the aftermath of the incident, with the waters covered in crude oil along the coast of the former British outpost.

A sea otter can be seen walking out of the filthy waters, looking for a different beach area where it could stay.

According to the authorities, the dredger's loss of engine power led it to drift into the Singaporean vessel, rupturing its oil tank. Four hundred tonnes of oil were spilled, most of which washed ashore.

Dr Karenne Tun, from the National Parks Board, said: 'No significant impact on marine biodiversity has been observed, though oil was found on the roots of some mangrove plants in the area.'
