A portion of forest cascaded onto a road in a massive landslide in China.

Footage shows a large chunk of soil, rocks, trees and plants sliding to the middle of the path, blocking traffic just before 3 pm in Tongcheng, Hubei, on July 1.

A driver was seen approaching the area downhill but stopped just in time to avoid being hit by debris.

Local officials had to divert traffic while cleanup work was done to remove the blockade.

They said the hillside had been weakened by recent heavy rain, causing the topsoil to loosen. The earth at the top of the hill began sliding down, taking with it rocks and trees.

Rising water levels along the Yangtze River due to intense rains in southern China have prompted eastern regions downstream to prepare for possible flooding.
