Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in Indonesia erupted again seven times, with a thick column of volcanic ash as high as 900 metres causing ash rain in residential areas.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted again on Friday, 5 July 2024, at 08:39 local time. This time, the eruption ejected an ash column as high as 900 metres from the mouth of the crater, accompanied by volcanic ash rain which affected the surrounding area.

The mountain in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, experienced seven eruptions accompanied by volcanic ash. Weak to moderate pressure crater smoke was observed to be grey with medium to thick intensity. Currently, the smoke rises as high as 900 metres above the top of the crater. The eruption brought lava flows to the northeast as far as around 4,340 metres from the centre of the eruption. As a result, volcanic ash rained down on residential areas on the mountain's slopes.

Volcanic ash with thick intensity hit the Hikong Village area, Kringa, Timutawa in Sikka Regency.

Meanwhile, the ashfall was most severe in the villages of Boru, Hokeng Jaya, Dulipali, Klantanlo, Padang Pasir Preparatory Village, and Nawakote B Preparatory Village.
