Rhino mother and her calf spend time together rolling in the mud

With the rhino being part of Africa’s big five animals and one of the most endangered species on this planet, it is always a priceless experience to view these prehistoric animals in their natural wild environment. During a safari in the Kruger National Park, we came across an adult female rhino and her sub adult calf. We found the rhinos at a watering hole where it looked like they just finished drinking water. Inside the waterhole was a lone hippo, carefully watching the two rhinos standing at the edge of the water. We decided to stop for a while an admire the large creatures in front of us. The next moment the female rhino decided it was time for a mud bath and she approached a muddy patch on the edge of the waterhole. The female rhino went to sit down and then lie down on her one side in the mud. The female rhino would then flip her feet into the air to get the mud all the way up her back. It was so incredible to watch this ancient beast having the time of her life while cooling down in the mud. The female rhino then switched sides after which her calf followed her example by getting down and dirty in the mud. The funniest part of the whole sighting was at the end when the mother rhino thought it was good to use her calf as a rubbing post to clean her large horn against. After scratching her horn against her calf, it was so funny to see how the female rhino gave her calf a nudge with her horn, as if she wanted her calf to enjoy one more roll in the mud before they both slowly started moving away from the water back into the bush.
