Lifeguards saved a teenager stuck in mud when the tide rose while he was swimming in California.

The Alameda Police and Alameda Fire Department rushed to the scene in Encinal Boat Ramp to help the youngster trapped in sludge on June 26.

Footage shows rescuers diving underwater to wrap a life belt around the kid to help pull them to the surface.

They transported the teenager to a hospital for medical evaluation. He was generally healthy and unhurt.
