52 people dead,114 animals die,95 rescued over 2 million affected as situation remains grim in Assam

The flood situation in Assam worsened over the past 24 hours leaving 52 people dead and several thousands homeless. The devastating flood in Assam's famed Kaziranga National Park (KNP) has also claimed the lives of 114 wild animals while 95 others have been rescued till Saturday.

Over 2 million people have been affected across the state as 30 out of the state's 35 districts remain severely affected in the second wave of floods facing the state. The situation has remained grim over the past month leading to loss of lives and damaging infrastructure besides causing crop destruction and loss of livestock. Thousands remain internally displaced and homeless across the northeastern state.

The State Disaster Response Force and the NDRF and fire services have been deployed to carry out rescue operations across the state.
