STORYLINE:
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad reiterated on Saturday their absolute rejection of attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause or displace the Palestinians, read a statement by the Egyptian Presidency.
According to the state-owned newspaper al Ahram, both presidents made their remarks during a phone call, which also tackled regional developments.
Both presidents highlighted the dangers of escalation in the region, emphasizing the vital necessity to prevent the widening of the conflict zone and preserve regional security and stability, according to the statement.
Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's efforts to help achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensure the sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities to meet the needs of the Palestinians.
He also stressed that Cairo will persist in pushing toward reinforcing the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
