Mount Lewotobi Male Erupts Again Throwing Ash 1000 Meters High, Residents Are Starting to Be Afraid and Worried

Mount Lewotobi Laki again showed its volcanic activity with an eruption that occurred today, Sunday 7 July 2024 at 10.42 local time.

The ash column was observed reaching a height of around 1,000 meters above the peak or around 2,584 meters above sea level (masl).

This gray column of ash with thick intensity is moving southwest and west.

The eruption, which was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 mm and a duration of around 2 minutes 55 seconds, was also accompanied by rain of sand and roaring which made residents around the foot of the mountain start to feel afraid and restless.

Robertus Tolok, a resident of Hokeng Jaya Village, expressed his fear because the mountain continued to show dangerous activity with falling ash and sand and terrifying roars.

"I and other residents are starting to get anxious and afraid because the mountain continues to erupt accompanied by ash and sand and rumbling. We are always haunted by ash rain and terrifying roars," said Robertus.

Currently, Mount Lewotobi Male is at Level III (Alert) status. Communities around the mountain as well as visitors and tourists are advised not to carry out any activities within a radius of 3 km from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, as well as 4 km to the north-northwest and south-southeast of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki- Man.

Authorities continue to monitor mountain activity and ask residents to always be alert to the potential for further danger.

Until now, the volcanic activity of Mount Lewotobi Laki continues to increase, adding to concerns among local residents.
