Heavy monsoon rains disrupts life in Mumbai, some schools closed. Forecasts says more rain

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that Mumbai experienced over 300 mm of rainfall in various places within a six-hour period from 1 am to 7 am on July 8.

The intense rainfall led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas and disrupted suburban train services.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) nowcast warning (till 10 am) shows an Orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and the Konkan belt. IMD had earlier forecasted a generally cloudy sky with moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs for the next 24 hours.
The heavy rainfall caused significant delays on the Central Railway's Mumbai Suburban and Harbour Line.

Train traffic was particularly affected at stations including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Kurla-Vikhroli, and Bhandup.
According to Central Railway officials, services were halted at around 5.15 am as trains could not cross Bhandup. However, by 6.40 am, services for slow local trains were restored.

Fast local trains remain halted, but efforts are underway to restore them soon. Some outstation trains have also been cancelled, while Harbour and Transharbour trains are running normally.

In a post on X, the railways said that due to water logging at various stations in the Mumbai division the following trains were cancelled:

1) 12110 (MMR-CSMT) JCO 08.07.2024
2) 11010 (PUNE-CSMT) JCO 08.07.2024
3) 12124 (PUNE CSMT DECCAN QUEEN) JCO 08.07.2024
4) 11007 (CSMT - PUNE DECCAN) JCO 08.07.2024
5) 12127 (CSMT-PUNE INTERCITY EXP) JCO 08.07.2024

Due to the water logging, many BEST bus routes were also diverted.
