Canada: Pro-Palestinian protesters clear encampment from University of Toronto campus
Toronto, Canada - July 03, 2024
Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters peacefully dismantled their encampment on Canada's largest university campus ahead of a court-ordered deadline.
The Ontario judge's court order required them to leave by 6pm, citing trespassing despite free speech arguments.
Mohammad Yassin, a spokesman and recent graduate, stressed that their march was protecting the community and hailed the occupation during the convocation as a victory.
Demonstrators called for transparency in the university's investments and urged divestment from Israel-related companies.
University President Meric Gertler welcomed the peaceful resolution, affirming existing rights to free speech and legitimate protest within the university community.
