USA: Willowbrook LAPD Officers Grazed by Bullet During Shootout
Los Angeles, United States - July 04, 2024
Two LAPD officers were injured by shattered glass and grazed by a bullet during a confrontation with a suspect in the Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles late Wednesday evening.
According to preliminary information from the LAPD posted to X, Southeast Division officers were patrolling in the area of Broadway and Rosecrans Avenue around 9 p.m. when they initiated a traffic stop on a white Chevy sedan near the intersection of Broadway and Rosecrans.
"As the suspect's vehicle came to a stop, the suspect immediately shot at the officers," stated the LAPD. Officers returned fire, however, it was unknown if the suspect was struck. Two officers sustained injuries from windshield glass shards and a graze wound to the head.
Multiple bullet holes were evident in the front windshield of an LAPD patrol vehicle as seen in KNN video from the scene.
After shooting at the officers, the suspect sped away. Officers followed the vehicle to the area of Broadway and 135th Street where they lost sight of the suspect's vehicle, according to the LAPD. The vehicle is described as white Chevy sedan and was last seen traveling north on Broadway from 135th Street around 9 p.m.
Both officers were transported to a local hospital by fire department paramedics for examination and treatment, reported the LAPD. They are listed in stable condition.
The LAPD is still in the early stages of the investigation and are actively searching for the suspect and vehicle.
