United States - July 02, 2024

On Tuesday morning, the Toll Fire ignited near Robert Louis Stevenson State Park, west of State Highway 29, north of Calistoga. As of Wednesday morning, the blaze, spanning 50 acres, remains uncontained, posing challenges due to steep terrain. Firefighters' primary focus is preventing the fire's spread down the steep slope into untouched land, a critical strategy to contain the blaze effectively.

Air tankers and helicopters are deploying fire retardants and water lines to suppress potential rollouts, crucially captured in video footage. Despite overnight temperatures in the mid-80s and wind gusts of 18 to 25 mph, firefighters maintained control lines, preventing the fire from expanding beyond its current footprint of 40.6 acres. Cal Fire reported 20% containment by Wednesday morning, with 80 personnel engaged in firefighting efforts.

Evacuation warnings were lifted Tuesday evening as forward progress on the fire halted around 4:45 p.m. Updates from Cal Fire underscore ongoing efforts to stabilize the situation north of Calistoga along Old Lawley Toll Road.
