Dad choked unconscious in hug from four-year-old daughter
A dad was nearly choked to death by his four-year-old daughter who playfully gripped his neck with her arms so tight while he carried her on his back that he blacked out.
The entire event was captured on surveillance footage in Mianyang, in China's Sichuan Province.
Mr Tao was joined by his little daughter as he went to collect a giant hanging poster outside his small business on the afternoon of June 26.
He carried the girl on his back so he could ensure she would not wander off while finishing the job but did not feel her squeezing too tight on his neck as she had her arms around him.
As he stood up, the child did not let go, and a few seconds later, Tao fainted and fell backwards.
He briefly lost consciousness and collapsed on top of his daughter, who began to cry when she realised her father was not moving.
Fortunately, neither of them suffered major injuries and Taoslowly began to come to.
Tao later told local media that the child happened to press on his carotid sinus which briefly cut off the blood supply to his brain and that caused him to faint, but he woke up after hearing her crying.
They went to the hospital for a check-up immediately and are now fine. He posted the video to remind everyone that this is very dangerous and should not be imitated.
The carotid sinus is located on both sides of the neck, roughly level with the Adam's apple, about two inches away. It is a blood pressure sensor that regulates the heart and blood vessels when blood pressure rises or falls. Applying pressure to the carotid sinus can lead to a reduced heart rate, lower blood pressure, and even fainting. If the pressure is too great or lasts too long, it can be fatal.
