Disaster victims buried by landslides in illegal gold mining in Indonesia increased to 104 people, 12 people died, 48 disappeared and 44 people survived.

The Gorontalo Province Search and Rescue Office (KPP) recorded additional data on illegal gold mining landslide victims in Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo province, Indonesia. The total data recorded to date is 104 victims in this disaster, 12 were found dead, 48 people were missing, and 44 survived.

"The latest data update to date is that the number of victims (affected by landslides) is a total of 104 people in total. There are still 12 people who died, of which one person's identity is not yet known. There are 44 people who survived and 48 people are being searched for according to the data we updated to date. at this time," said the Head of the Gorontalo search and rescue office, Heriyanto, in the early hours of Tuesday 9 July 2024.

Heriyanto said the joint SAR team was still at the mine site. Heriyanto said the search for victims was hampered by bad weather.

"For the joint SAR team that left this morning at the location. According to information from our members above, they are still at the mine location that was hit by the landslide," said Heriyanto.

"We were hampered by unfriendly weather because from this morning until now it was still raining while walking to the mining site," he continued.

Heriyanto said that in searching for victims at the mine site, his party would excavate landslide material using heavy equipment in the form of an excavator. The search personnel were also added by 11 people from the central Basarnas Special Group (BSG).

"We will later excavate the material with heavy equipment and also carry out a search involving 11 personnel from a special search and rescue team group. In the search so far there are 48 people," he concluded.
