Seychelles - July 8, 2024

Several operations have been performed, with over 1,000 outpatients receiving treatment aboard the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy hospital ship "Peace Ark" since its arrival in Seychelles on Friday.

The hospital ship arrived in Seychelles for friendly visits and providing medical services, marking its first visit to the country in 14 years.

In addition to treating patients aboard the ship, the Chinese doctors have dispatched medical teams to local hospitals and communities for inspections and academic exchanges.

One such operation involved a resident of Victoria City in Seychelles, who had been troubled by cataracts in her right eye for the past three years. Upon learning of the ship's arrival, she rushed to seek treatment. After examinations, Chinese doctors performed phacoemulsification cataract surgery on her.

"Located near the equator, Seychelles experiences strong sunlight, heat, and ultraviolet rays, resulting in a high incidence of eye diseases such as cataracts and pterygium. Since our arrival, we have overcome challenges and tried to restore sight to as many Seychellois patients as possible," said Gao Yu, a crew member of Mission Harmony-2024.

Expert teams will also conduct first-aid training for the Seychelles Coast Guard. Additionally, cultural activities and a basketball game with the Seychelles team are planned during the visit.
