Butte Valley, United States - July 04, 2024

The Lumpkin Fire, which erupted in Butte County amidst a wave of 232 wildfires across scorching California, was swiftly identified at 8:17 p.m. on July 4th. Thanks to the rapid response of CAL FIRE/Butte County, including crucial night water drops from a CAL FIRE S70i Firehawk helicopter, the blaze was contained to just 7.5 acres.

CAL FIRE's enhanced night operations capability played a pivotal role in this successful containment, allowing for effective night drops across multiple fire fronts in a single evening. The Lumpkin Fire stands as a testament to CAL FIRE's proactive measures and collaborative efforts with partners to combat wildfires amid an unusually active early fire season, which has already seen 145,000 acres scorched statewide.
