A ground vehicle caught fire next to a British Airways plane parked at the Heathrow International Airport in London.

Flames and a huge black cloud of smoke were seen rising from a set of mobile stairs attached to the Airbus A320 before engulfing its tail on Juen 25.

The thick column at Terminal 5 was so high that it could be seen from behind several other terminal buildings at the busy airport.

Heathrow Airport confirmed that no passengers were onboard the aircraft at the time of the incident.

A spokesman said that the airport fire service had attended to the incident promptly.

The aircraft affected is registered as G-EUYO and was built in 103.
