A pet goat saved from a slaughterhouse has no appetite for grass and only eats rice.

The farm animal named Chao Lai was bought before it could be slaughtered for meat and donated to a Buddhist temple six months ago in Uthai Thani, Thailand.

Since then, Chao Lai has been under the care of monks, who found it to have unusual eating habits for a herbivore.

Footage shows the goat riding a tractor with monk Phra Surat Pawaro, 67, before they stopped for snacks.

Chao Lai greeted locals like a pet dog and would munch on fried fish and rice while the other goats enjoyed grass.

Monk Phra Surat Pawaro said: ‘He is tame and friendly, never harming anyone visiting the temple, and enjoys clinging closely to the monk.

‘Chao Lai's favourite food are mixed dishes and desserts.'

The monk added Chao Lai has a mate Thung Ngern who is pregnant.

Monk Phra Surat said: ‘Thung Ngern was donated after someone noticed that Chao Lai was single and might be lonely.

‘Both goats live peacefully with the dogs inside the temple and do not attack each other.

‘They enjoy eating mixed food together, including mackerel, boiled eggs, and snacks, especially crispy breads.'
