A wild elephant blocked a road and checked passing cars for food.

Footage shows the jumbo standing between the two lanes and refusing to let the drivers pass through until after it inspected their vehicles in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand, on July 5.

The hungry bull pulled a container off the back of a pickup truck, stepped on it to crack open, and ate the food inside.

Drivers eventually passed by without damage and the elephant left the area.

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.

The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
