Rural areas in China have been stepping up efforts toward greener development in recent years, with rural residents' income increased and the environment improved.

In Langxi Town, southwest China's Guizhou Province, locals have turned to tree planting to tackle rocky desertification.

12,000 mu (800 hectares) of fruit trees have been planted, with a total annual output of fruit exceeding 3 million kg.

As the environment improved, tourism became an emerging industry.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): WU CHENGJING, Tourist
"In spring, we came to Langxi with the fragrance of flowers. And in summer and autumn, we came here with the fragrance of fruits. The peaches we picked were big and red, with a good taste. We enjoyed the picking experience here."

Jianliupu Village in central China's Hubei Province is known for its eco-friendly fish farming industry.

By utilizing the space above the fishponds, the solar fish farm can generate about 5,000 kWh of electricity daily.

The fish farm is also equipped with an intelligent fishery management system, which can realize fully automatic fish culture with zero sewage discharge and zero energy consumption.

Guanzhuang Village in east China's Shandong Province has developed an innovative approach for installing solar panels.

Villagers earn money by renting roofs to enterprises for solar power generation.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LI YUNLONG, Secretary of the Communist Party of China branch in Guanzhuang Village
"Now the roof of every household in the village is installed with solar panels, which is like a 'sunshine passbook' of our village. The power supply department comes regularly to check the photovoltaics (facilities). Villagers don't spend a penny but gain 'sunshine income' by renting out their roofs."
