Beef consumption in Argentina has reached a historic low in 2024, with an annual projection of 44.8 kg per inhabitant, according to a recent report by the Rosario Stock Exchange. This value is the lowest recorded in at least 110 years, evidencing a downward trend that has been aggravated by the economic recession and a shift in consumer preferences towards cheaper sources of protein.

Since the second half of the last century, beef consumption has been declining, gradually being replaced by other meats such as chicken and pork. This shift has been accentuated by the country's current economic situation, which has led many Argentines to opt for more affordable alternatives. The projection of 44.8 kg per inhabitant in 2024 is well below the historical average of 72.9 kg and the floor of 46.9 kg recorded in 1920.
