3rd alarm Building fire with collapse shuts down highway Girardville, Pennsylvania
Around 1330hrs Girardville Fire Department was alerted to a house fire in butler township.
Chief 45 responded and arrived in minutes to a house fully involved with heavy fire showing and immediately requested a second alarm.
Crews battled the intense heat of the fire along with temperatures that were close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
No injuries were reported and all occupants were reported to have been able to safely exit the structure before fire department arrived on scene.
Tankers were also called due to the remote location of the blaze.
BUTLER TOWNSHIP — Firefighters from Schuylkill and Northumberland counties were called to 9 Connerton St., just off Route 54 east of Girardville, at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for a working house fire.
The home in the former mining village of Connerton was engulfed in flames when first responders arrived. The home eventually collapsed due to the damage.
Frank Zangari, Girardville fire chief, said the owner, Georgeanne Walacavage, was the only person home and was able to escape unharmed.
Zangari said no firefighter injuries were reported and that the cause and nature of the blaze remains under investigation.
Firefighters were called back out to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. for a rekindle.
Firefighters are battling a working house fire in Butler Twp., according to reports from the scene.
A three-alarm fire, the blaze erupted around 2 p.m. in a single-family house at 9 Connerton Road, west of Gilberton.
A portion of the structure collapsed around 2:20 p.m., said Amy Marchiano, a Republican Herald reporter on scene.
Fire companies from across northern Schuylkill County responded. Tankers trucked water to the scene.
It is not known if the house was occupied at the time the fire broke out.
