Mount Lewotobi in Indonesia erupts again, spewing columns of volcanic ash as high as 700 - 1000 meters, residents are wary of lava floods

Mount Lewotobi Laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia experienced another eruption, on Thursday 11 July 2024 at 06.55 local time (WITA).

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that the mountain launched volcanic ash as high as 700 - 1000 meters above the peak.

"The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki occurred at 06:55 WITA with the height of the ash column observed at 700 - 1000 meters above the peak (2284 meters above sea level)," said Adzan Anugrah Indiarsyah, Volcano Observation Post Officer, on Thursday 11 July 2024.

Adzan also asked the community around Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki to be aware of the potential for rain lava flooding in rivers that originate at the peak of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki if high intensity rain occurs.
