Ethiopian scholars have spoken highly of China's Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), saying it's a significant step toward building a shared future and addressing global crises.

They made the remarks during "The Civilization Lecture Series," a high-level dialogue held Saturday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital. The event aimed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the civil societies of China and Ethiopia.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): YONAS ADAYE, Commissioner of Ethiopian National Dialogue
"I think the best way is just approaching Global Civilization Initiative, that's absolutely important, which makes everybody, every human being responsible for their own survival. The lesson that we can learn is cooperation, harmony, working together, listening to each other, and celebrating and respecting diversity."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): GEDION GAMORA, Senior adviser to United Nations Development Program
"China is one of the civilized countries in the world in both ways. First, China is one of the oldest states in the world. More than 5,000 years of existence, which means we can learn a lot from China. On the other hand, in the near past, China managed to grow. Not only economic growth, China also effected development in the country and China managed to lift more than 700 million people out of poverty."
