Chinese rider shoots down drone disrupting equestrian event
A rider shot down a drone disrupting an equestrian event in northern China.
The video was filmed in Hulunbuir City in Inner Mongolia on July 9.
A drone, flying without permission, entered the event area, disrupting the competition and posing a potential threat to both spectators and participants. Despite repeated warnings from the host, the drone continued to hover over the venue until a rider shot it down with a bow and arrow.
According to witnesses, as the competition reached a high point, the drone appeared, flying low and filming the event. The drone’s buzzing noise and shadow unsettled the horses, creating further disruption.
To address the situation, the host used a loudspeaker to warn the drone operator, demanding an immediate halt to the filming and for the drone to leave the area. But the operator ignored these warnings, continuing to circle overhead.
Faced with this persistent issue, a rider drew his bow and accurately shot the drone down. Park staff quickly intervened to manage the aftermath, allowing the event to continue smoothly.
Park authorities noted that the area is a border zone where drone flights are strictly prohibited, with clear notices posted and frequent reminders given to visitors.
Police from the Hohhada Border Police Station reiterated that many border areas enforce strict no-fly zones for drones. Any recreational or survey drone activities require prior approval from public security authorities.
The police stated they would handle any unauthorized drone flights according to the law.
