United States - July 09, 2024

On July 9, 2024, just before 6:55 AM, the Summit County Emergency Communications Center fielded alarming reports of a pickup truck traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of US 40 near mile marker 15. The erratic journey continued as the vehicle proceeded from Wasatch County towards Summit County, prompting urgent intervention.

Summit County deputies swiftly mobilized to locate the wrong-way driver. A patrol deputy successfully intercepted the vehicle near mile 3.5 on US 40, despite the driver persisting in the left lane of the eastbound travel lanes. In a decisive maneuver, the deputy positioned his vehicle to block the path of the oncoming truck.

During the interception, the deputy sustained minor injuries and was promptly transported to a local hospital. Thankfully, the driver of the wrong-way vehicle emerged unscathed from the incident. The Utah Highway Patrol has assumed responsibility for investigating the circumstances surrounding this dangerous incident.

Authorities emphasize the critical need for vigilance and swift action in responding to such emergencies to prevent potentially catastrophic outcomes on the roadways.
