Recent heavy rainfall in Cox's Bazar has caused severe flooding in the Rohingya refugee camps, creating a critical situation for thousands of residents. The torrential rains led to inundated shelters, destroyed infrastructure, and left many refugees without adequate protection.

The makeshift homes, constructed mainly from bamboo and tarpaulin, were no match for the deluge. Many structures were swept away or damaged beyond repair, forcing families to seek higher ground and makeshift accommodations. The flooding has also compromised essential infrastructure such as roads and bridges, further isolating affected communities and hindering movement within the camps.

Sanitation facilities were overwhelmed by the floodwaters, leading to the overflow of latrines and contamination of drinking water sources. This has raised serious health concerns, with an increased risk of waterborne diseases spreading throughout the camps.

In the wake of the disaster, community leaders and camp residents have taken matters into their own hands. Local volunteers have been organizing to provide immediate relief, assisting with the evacuation of vulnerable individuals and distributing whatever resources they can muster, such as dry food, clean water, and materials for temporary shelters.

Families are banding together to salvage what they can from the wreckage and rebuild their homes. Makeshift drainage systems are being dug to divert floodwaters and improve living conditions, albeit temporarily. Despite the challenging circumstances, the resilience and solidarity of the Rohingya people shine through as they work to protect and support one another in this time of crisis.
