Stunning footage shows 15 acre maze shaped in the style of Gruffalo
Bookworms celebrating the 25th anniversary of
children's classic the Gruffalo have something else to get lost in - a 15 acre maze shaped in the style of its characters.
Farmer Tom Pearcy cut over 5km of pathways into a 15-acre field that contains over a million maize plants to create the stunning 150m tall image.
Amazing aerial photos show the painstaking detail that went into the design at York Maze, which shows The Gruffalo, his child, Mouse and other animals from the story.
Believed to be the biggest image of the Gruffalo ever made, it marks 25 years since the iconic story book was first published.
Tom said: "The Gruffalo appeals to all ages and has become a much-loved classic bedtime storybook. "
"I read it to my children when they were younger and still love it today."
"The image of The Gruffalo and the other characters from the story are ideal for creating a maze design."
Axel Scheffler, illustrator of The Gruffalo, said: "When I first drew The Gruffalo 25 years ago, little did I realise how popular he would go on to become. "
"It is amazing to see him and the other characters featured in a giant maize maze for the first time."
Eight times the size of Wembley's pitch, the attraction is believed to be the biggest maze in Europe and one of the largest in the world.
The Gruffalo maze is open from Saturday until September 2.
