The UK's largest colony of yellow-tailed scorpions have established a long-term home on a Kent island.

It's believed scorpions were bought into Sheerness docks on the Isle of Sheppey via cargo ships back in the 18th century.

Scopions have been living in the former Royal Dockyard wall ever since - the only place in the UK where a long-term breeding colony has been established - with up to 15,000 of the creatures believed to be inhabiting the dockyard wall in the Blue Town district of Sheerness.

Scorpions glow blue-green under ultraviolet light and their evolutionary history goes back an incredible 435-million years.

Footage filmed yesterday (July 11) shows a couple of the scorpions moving around the dockyard wall at 11pm local time on a hot and humid evening.
