This is the moment a brave rescuer jumps into a raging river to save a youngster who slipped into the water and was being swept away.

The man named Shi Zhian was recorded as he plunged into the water and rescued the child who had fallen into the river in Baoding City, in Hebei China, on July 7.

Shi, a retired soldier now working at the Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau of Urban Management in Tang County, Baoding City, acted instantly when he realised the danger after the boy fell into the water while playing near the river and was swept away.

Shi, seen all dressed in black in video footage of the rescue, jumped into the water to save the child and eventually succeeded despite difficulties in grabbing hold of him initially.

Although it seemed as if he might not succeed at first, he continued and eventually retrieved the child from a deeper part of the river.

The rescued boy appeared extremely pale and had swallowed a significant amount of water. It took some time for him to recover, but he reportedly did not sustain serious injuries.

The Tang County Party Committee's Political and Legal Committee praised Shi as a dedicated member of the community in his 40s, highlighting his active role in serving others.

The Committee is coordinating with relevant departments to ensure Shi receives commendation for his bravery.
