Chinese schools are increasingly removing the chairs in dining rooms so that pupils can quickly get back to studying.

The trend has quickly spread to other schools that implemented it, and the standing policy also included separating boys from girls in the dining room so they do not get distracted by forming relationships.

The images here were reportedly shot at one of the first schools to implement it and were recorded by a part-time employee, identified only by the surname Li, in Zhumadian in central Henan, China on Friday, June 28.

While he was visiting the secondary school to help students with their university applications he took the video. It later emerged that the school was one of the top in getting kids to successfully pass exams and the policy was adopted reportedly by other schools.

The school also defended the move saying that it was much safer for students to stand and also healthier after long periods of sitting in the classroom.

They added that the separation between the girls and boys was to discourage romances, saying that this was the wish of the parents who wanted their children to prioritise studying.

The move brings them increasingly in line with China's military-style academies known for their strict discipline with the aim of academic success.

Before the unidentified school adopted the practice they said they had seen it in operation in another school in the country.
