Redmond, United States - July 05, 2024

In a daring rescue early Friday morning, Redmond police officers, assisted by Redmond Fire and Rescue, swiftly responded to a house fire at 2175 NW Redwood Avenue. The incident unfolded at approximately 1:22 a.m., when officers arrived to find flames engulfing the side of the residence.

With no response from inside, Officers Jeremy Rutledge, Riley Powell, and Sergeant Jered Kirk made the critical decision to force entry into the burning home. Inside, they discovered five individuals asleep, unaware of the imminent danger. Through their quick actions, the officers successfully roused the occupants and evacuated them to safety.

Meanwhile, the Redmond Fire Department managed to contain and extinguish the blaze. Their investigation revealed that the fire originated from improperly disposed fireworks.

Chief Devin Lewis publicly commended Officers Rutledge, Powell, and Sergeant Kirk for their bravery and decisive response during a City Council meeting on July 9th. Their actions undoubtedly prevented a potentially tragic outcome in the heart of Redmond.
